Traditionally the UK is a very vibrant economy with a lively job market. The UK is a hub for higher education with so many prestigious and world class universities and schools and therefore has always been a favoured destination for students and knowledge seekers. It is a diverse, heterogeneous and inclusive society. The lifestyle and culture are ideal.
Recently most sectors of the UK’s job market are facing a shortage of skilled workers as more jobs are emerging. The reasons are Brexit and post pandemic boom in investment and better performance of the UK economy. This opens up vast opportunity for skilled job seekers and UK migration aspirants.
With ‘Brexit’ and new immigration rules preferential treatment to EU applicants has gone and a level playing field is provided for UK job aspirants’ world over.
In the post pandemic times the Government of UK is up with the challenges and are coming up with robust viable policies to boost the economy and enhance the image of the UK as a prosperous flourishing Nation. In the UK Innovation Strategy published on 22nd July 2021, it is stated:
“The UK, along with the rest of the world, has faced exceptional challenges over the past 18 months. Our society, our economy, and our livelihoods have all been affected. In recovering from the pandemic, we must build on this country’s innovative foundations to create a robust and agile economy that works for everyone and is fit for future generations. Investment in innovation will be critical to achieving this, and to building a greener, healthier and more prosperous future for the UK.”
On the immigration front, the Government is very active with new policy measures. After the announcement of Youth Mobility Visa, now the Government has announced a new Scale-Up visa route which will be launched in the United Kingdom in the spring of 2022.It is an effort to attract talent from all over the world to the UK.
A scale-up is a business with:
An annual average revenue or employment growth rate over a 3-year period greater than 20% and a minimum of 10 employees at the start of this three-year period.
This new visa route, will allow fast-growing/ Scale-up businesses to hire high-skilled overseas workers with a salary of at least £33,000.There won’t be the technicalities of sponsorship, it will be through a fast-
track verification process. More details will be released in early 2022.
Speaking to reporters, about the shortage of skilled workers, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:
“What we have now is a system that allows us to control immigration, and that gives us flexibility. We can open up our markets if we need to, and of course we’ll keep everything under review,”
Now as per the Graduate Immigration Route, on completing their course, students are free to apply to stay in the country for another two years without the need to fetch a separate skilled worker visa and this would enable them to work in the UK for the period of permission to stay.
After 5 years of stay as a skilled worker one could apply for ‘Indefinite Leave to Remain’ which gives the status of ‘permanent resident’ of the UK.
Popular job sites show big hike in job vacancies in the UK. With lots of job opportunities emerging, on an overall evaluation it can be said that now might be the best time to migrate to the UK.
The time is right for choosing the UK for studies or for work and further for permanent residence.
